Is Combiflam Banned?

Combiflam one of the most common over the counter medicine found in every household. It is used for Febrility, Fever, Ear pain, Cold, Cephalalgia, Headache, Pain in teeth, Analgesic, Joint pain, Pain in body and other conditions. Combiflam Tablet may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Manufacturer: Sanofi Aventis, manufactured at Sanofi’s factory in Ankleshwar, Gujarat.

How Combiflam Works?

Combiflam Tablet works by blocking the production of a prostaglandin that is released in the body during pain. Increase the pain threshold and increases the blood flow across the skin, heat loss and sweating. It thus offers relief from several problems like headache, toothache, arthritis (see apple cider vinegar to treat arthritis), pain in the back, menstrual cramps and other types of small injuries.

Combiflam Ingredients:

Combiflam is a combination of the over the counter medications Paracetemol/ Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen. Ibuprofen is an NSAID (Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug), and Paracetemol/Acetaminophen is a common over the counter pain relief medication.

Side Effects of Combiflam:

The following is a list of possible side effects that may occur from all constituting ingredients of Combiflam Tablet.
These are the possible side effects, not mandatory to occur always. Some of the side effects may be rare but serious. Consult your doctor if you observe any of the following side effects, especially if they do not go away.

  • Abdominal pain
  • Gas
  • High blood pressure
  • Yellow colored eyes or skin
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Swollen facial features
  • Headache
  • Constipation
  • Skin rash
  • Allergic reactions
  • Decreased urine output
  • Feeling of sickness
  • Eczema

There may be other side effects, not listed above list. Please inform your doctor if you experience any adverse reaction to any medication.

Is Combiflam Banned/Recall?

Combiflam incidentally is one of the fixed drugs combinations to survive the recent purge by the Union health ministry, which issued a notification banning 350-odd medicines that are a combination of fixed doses of one or more drugs for a range of reasons.

Combiflam and Other Painkiller Tests:

Specific batches of 60 drugs (include anti-allergic Cetirizine, painkiller Combiflam, anti-cold D Cold Total, and drugs containing antibiotics ciprofloxacin and ofloxacin) have failed quality tests in the sample based screening of Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO). Some batches of Combiflam failed the test because of “disintegration” issues.
The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) has found Combiflam, D Cold Total along with 60 other batches to be substandard in its tests. According to different tests, these drugs as “not of Standard Quality/Adulterated/Spurious /Misbranded.

Combiflam Recall:

Drugmaker Sanofi has recalled certain batches of Combiflam medicine manufactured in 2015 due to delay in the disintegration time of the tablet.

The Drug Controller General of India saying that the withdrawal of Combiflam from the markets was ordered because some batches were of substantially poor quality. He also added that the action was taken in public interest. There is however no ban on the sale of Combiflam medicine yet.

Moreover, India banned 344 combination drugs including 79 deadly combinations of paracetamol. This list include popular medicines such as Vicks Action 500 Extra, Corex, Dolo, and Phensedyl cough syrups. However, Combiflam was not included in the list of banned 344 combination drugs.

Do not take Combiflam if:

  • You have heart disease and are at a risk of suffering from heart attack.
  • You are allergic to any substance that is present in Combiflam Tablet.
  • In pregnancy, do not take Combiflam without doctor consult.
  • You have recently had a bypass operation.
